Dr. Adam earned her Medical Doctorate and completed a residency in Pediatrics at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. She worked as a general pediatrician with a focus on high-risk adolescents for many years. Her work with adolescents led to her current position and research interest. Dr. Adam is co-investigator on a five year National Institutes of Health funded project studying adolescent sexual decision-making and has a joint appointment in the departments of Pediatrics and Surgery. She is also a consultant for LeCroy and Milligan Associates evaluating a five year federally funded state wide abstinence-only sex education program.

She has been elected to serve on the Section of Bioethics Executive Committee for the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Adam serves on the Bioethics Committee of the University Medical Center Hospital. She is also a member of the Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and has served as Adolescent Committee Chair since 1995. She resides in Tucson with her husband Rod and their three children.

She has been involved in a number of international medical educational outreaches in both Romania and Ukraine sponsored by the COMIA. As a student she and her husband worked at a mission hospital in Liberia.

Her interest in bioethics has led her to pursue graduate work in the field, and she has completed a graduate degree in bioethics. She has presented at several bioethics meetings and has published several book chapters on topics ranging from ethical issues in sex education and sexually transmitted disease prevention to ethical issues regarding physician unions.
